Factory Engineer

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team at Sidney Sugars Incorporated, located in Sidney, MT, as a Factory Engineer. The purpose of this position is to complete independent engineering projects to achieve established objectives with minimal supervision.

The principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages all aspects of capital projects including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, design, bidding, construction management, and startup.
  • Applies knowledge of technical engineering discipline, core business, or related processing experience to select methods and resources to complete assigned capital projects. Prioritizes tasks within assigned capital projects and effectively delegates within the constraints of project organization.
  • Gains an understanding of the Company’s equipment specifications, equipment lists, instrumentation specifications. Reviews Process Flow Diagrams and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams to ensure Company requirements are met.
  • Independently develops project budgets and schedules, obtains information and tasks to go into schedules and works within established budgets and schedules.
  • Understands standard practices and established procedures. Generates and tests new approaches to methods, procedures or technical solutions to the best advantage of the Company. Utilizes philosophy of investment ‘life-cycle’ cost minimization.
  • Recognizes problems and communicates alternative solutions to appropriate staff and facilitates process to select ‘best’ alternative to accomplish desired objective.
  • Effectively negotiates with outside suppliers ensuring the best interests of the Company.
  • Identifies and participates in the development of training programs for staff utilizing completed engineering projects.
  • Develops construction bid packages, selects bidders and determines final contractor within established Company procedures. Oversees the activities of construction contractors at the factory site. Ensures construction contractors work in a safe manner.
  • Assists Operations staff in determination of root causes for process problems, developing alternatives to solve process problems, and implementing the chosen solution.
  • Provides assistance and shift coverage for production and/or maintenance staff as needed from time to time.

To be successful in this position requires technical knowledge normally gained through the completion of an engineering degree with demonstrated knowledge of the core business or related experience in a processing industry. Two to three years of previous applied experience is required. Additionally, this position requires effective communication skills in order to effectively communicate project information verbally and in written form and appropriate planning and management skills to ensure project completion with established parameters. The incumbent must be able to recognize, identify, communicate, and recommend solutions to problems and significant issues on assigned projects.
